GPT-6 Astra API price
Current price in US dollars — the same as on the pricing page. Pay in USDT, pay as you go, no subscription.
| model | input $ / 1M | output $ / 1M |
|---|---|---|
| gpt-6-astra | $12.00 cache read $1.20 >272K: $24.00 | $60.00 >272K: $90.00 |
Input is the regular price of input tokens, “cache read” is the price of input tokens served from the prompt cache, output is the price of output tokens. The price in your account may be lower.
The grey “>272K” line is the vendor’s official tier for long prompts: when a prompt exceeds the threshold, the whole request is billed at that tier.
What is GPT-6 Astra
GPT-6 Astra belongs to the GPT-6 generation and sits above the GPT-5.6 series in OpenAI's lineup, aimed at its most demanding work. It is a reasoning model that takes text and images as input, returns text, and supports function calling and structured outputs.
Unlike the GPT-5.6 models, Astra always reasons: there is no none level, and reasoning effort ranges from low to max. It doesn't accept custom temperature, top_p or logprobs, so remove them when porting code from older models. On RuAPI it is available via both /v1/chat/completions and /v1/responses, so it works with standard OpenAI SDKs and with Codex CLI.

What it’s good for
- Complex multi-step tasks where a reasoning mistake is costly
- Hard coding work: system design, large refactors, tracking down subtle bugs
- Research and analysis across large sets of documents
- Drafting reports, specifications and other long documents
When another model is a better fit
- GPT-5.6 Sol — Flagship of the GPT-5.6 series for complex professional work; reasoning can be switched off when you need a quick answer
- Claude Fable 5.1 — Anthropic's model for demanding reasoning and long-horizon agentic work; accepts PDFs and works in Claude Code
