What is Gemini 4 Argon
Google currently presents Argon as its flagship. The model is built for complex software engineering, math and science problems, and autonomous agents that work through long chains of steps on their own. It accepts text, images, video, audio and PDF and replies in text.
Thinking is always on in Argon; you control its depth with the thinking_level parameter. The minimal level and the thinking_budget parameter are rejected with an error, so check your request settings when switching from other Gemini models. Caching is implicit only: Google automatically caches repeated prompt prefixes, while explicit context caching isn't supported for this model.

What it’s good for
- Hard engineering work: refactoring, tracking down subtle bugs, designing modules
- Autonomous agents with tool calls and long multi-step runs
- Math and science problems where the reasoning matters
- Analyzing video, audio and PDF alongside text instructions
When another model is a better fit
- Gemini 3.1 Pro — Google's previous Pro model — useful if your prompts and agents are already tuned for it.
- Gemini 3.5 Flash-Lite — Cheaper and faster for high-volume simple tasks that don't need deep reasoning.
