What is Claude Opus 5.5
Claude Opus 5.5 is built for long-running agentic coding and knowledge work. Anthropic recommends it as the starting model for most workloads: move up to Fable 5.1 when you need more, or to Sonnet 5.5 or Haiku 5.5 when speed matters more.
Thinking is always on: a request with thinking: {type: disabled} returns a 400 error, but you can tune depth with the effort parameter (default medium). The 1M-token context lets you send large parts of a codebase or a big document set in one request, and the model accepts text, images and PDF.
