What is Claude Fable 5.1
Claude Fable 5.1 is Anthropic's model for demanding reasoning and long-horizon agentic work with many steps. Anthropic suggests starting with Opus 5.5 and moving to Fable 5.1 when Opus falls short, so treat it as the next step up rather than an everyday default.
Adaptive thinking is always on; you control its depth with the effort parameter (default high). It accepts text, images and PDF and supports tool use and structured outputs, but forced tool use (tool_choice any or tool) returns an error. Through RuAPI you can call it in native Anthropic format or via the OpenAI-compatible /v1/chat/completions, with prompt caching in both.
